Freelance Writer/Children's Book Author
My name is Lisa Wade McCormick and I’m an award winning newspaper reporter and television producer. During my career, I’ve worked as an investigative producer at KCTV-5 in Kansas City, and as a newspaper reporter for The Greeley (Colorado) Daily Tribune, and The Independence Examiner. I have won numerous awards for my reporting, including two Emmy Awards and the I.R.E. Medal for Outstanding Investigative Reporting. My investigative stories have recovered thousands of dollars for consumers, exposed unscrupulous public officials, and triggered nationwide recalls of dangerous products.
I have also worked as an Economic Crime Investigator with the Johnson County, Kansas, district attorney’s office. My investigations sent numerous defendants to prison and recovered thousands of dollars for consumers.
I have written five children’s book for Children’s Press, a subsidiary of Scholastic. They’re all biographies geared from students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The books are titled "Michael Jordan," "Marie Curie," "Lewis and Clark," "Christopher Columbus," and "The Wright Brothers." I've also written seven children's books for Capstone Press. These non-fiction books are part of the company's "Mysteries of Science" series. They are titled Alien Abductions,” “Bigfoot,” Ghosts," "Haunted Houses,” “Mothman," "Near-Death Experiences,” and “Psychic Powers.” These books are geared for kids in 3-7th grades, but are written at a second grade reading level.
In addition, I am marketing my chapter book, “Typo The News Hound,” and working on my second novel.
I live in Kansas City, Missouri, with my husband, two children, and our two dogs, Shadow and Kona. Our dog, Kona, is a registered therapy dog and a Reading Education Assistance Dog.
